It is with both sadness and gratitude that we announce that after years of service, Alice Roess has resigned from her position as President of the Watauga Humane Society.
During her time with WHS, Alice has been very generous with her time and resources and championed many positive changes. Because of her tireless efforts, Watauga County relieved WHS of a looming balloon payment on the shelter's mortgage by paying off the loan and choosing to let the shelter make payments directly to the county with little interest, resulting in cutting the monthly payment in half.
Alice coordinated the 50th anniversary celebration for the Humane Society last year, organized our largest fundraisers during her time as president, such as the Fur Ball and last year's Car Barn event.
Having Alice serve as President of the Board of Directors has made Watauga Humane Society a better place. Her passion and generosity will be sorely missed.
